Types of Insurance Compared
You can typically compare the main types of pet insurance policies through their service:
- Accident Only: Covers vet fees only if your pet is injured in an accident. Usually the cheapest and least comprehensive option.
- Time-Limited: Covers each illness or injury for a set period (usually 12 months from onset) and up to a fixed sum. After the time or financial limit is reached for a condition, it’s no longer covered.
- Maximum Benefit (Per Condition): Covers each illness or injury up to a set financial limit. There’s no time limit for reaching the cap, but once the limit for a specific condition is reached, it’s no longer covered, even if you renew the policy.
- Lifetime: The most comprehensive (and usually most expensive) type. It covers conditions up to an annual limit, which resets each year when you renew the policy. This is designed to cover ongoing or chronic conditions throughout the pet’s life, as long as the policy is maintained.

Some major insurers (like Petplan or Direct Line, according to MoneySavingExpert) choose not to list their products on comparison sites, so you might miss out on potentially suitable options by only using one platform.
- Focus May Skew Towards Price: While features are listed, the prominent display of prices can sometimes lead users to prioritize the cheapest quote without fully scrutinizing the cover details, exclusions, excess structure (especially co-payments for older pets), and the insurer’s reputation for claims handling.
- Quote Variability: Occasionally, the price quoted on a comparison site might differ slightly from going directly to the insurer or using another comparison site, due to different commercial agreements or data updates. It’s often recommended to check more than one comparison site.
- Difficulty in Claims Process: Some users have reported challenges when trying to make claims through the insurers they found via Money SuperMarket pet insurance.
- Customer Service: A few customers have mentioned dissatisfaction with the customer service provided by certain insurance companies listed on Money SuperMarket.
- Complexity of Policies: There have been complaints about the clarity of policy details, with some users feeling that important information was not adequately highlighted.
- Limited Specialist Options: While they compare policies for pre-existing conditions, highly specialized needs might be better served by directly approaching niche or specialist insurers who may not be featured prominently, or at all.
- Generic Advice: The information and guides provided are general; the platform cannot offer personalized advice tailored to your specific pet’s unique health situation or your financial circumstances beyond the quotes generated.

Money SuperMarket Last Negative Reviews
- Too difficult to contact you eg no phone number, stock replies not related to my complaint. Avoid.
- I was very disappointed with Money Supermarket. They openly wanted to deceive and get extra money from me. I had finished everything and payed first installment but later just after about 1 hour called me on phone and they said I had to pay an extra of almost £800 I canceled my contract with them but still charged me £35 for cancelation. I don’t recommend this company.
- every time I get a quote they want me to phone them… jog on
- I’m all for diversity and inclusivity – but, refuse to use a company that shows 6-7 characters in its advertising that cover slim females, larger females, ethnic minority females, pet owning females etc etc. But, not a single MALE? Imagine if this was the other way round, outrage would ensure. So, I feel more represented and valued by a male stuffed toy meerkat and so I bought from there instead. Simples.
- Well I’ve been searching for a good site to buy my pet insurance and money supermarket isn’t it unfortunately!!! It’s a very difficult site to use and then crashes when you finally get to book your insurance. I called them and they said it’s probably your computer 🙁
- was looking for insurance for my cat, at first I thought I had a good deal which obviously money supermarket is endorsing, only to find out when I needed to call the company it took £10 credit off my phone, money supermarket that’s there to save you money ends up costing more, what the companies reply was that it’s up to me to have bundles from the phone company so it’s free, why the bloody hell should I have to have a bundle when I rarely even lift my mobile phone, having a bundle would again cost me more money as they only last a month, £10 credit lasts me 6 months, all endorsed by money supermarket
